In the first part of the pa per the author focuses on the critiques of progressivism and progressive education articulated by the initiators of the reform of the educational system implemented in 1988. In the subsequent parts of the article the author describes the National Curriculum introduced by The 1988 Education Reform Act, which made it compulsory for schools to teach certain subjects and syllabuses. She also discusses the project of the radical reform of the educational system prepared by the British government and enunciated in The Importance of Teaching. The Schools White Paper 2010. In the final part of the paper the author assesses the changes in primary education as damaging and claims that since the 1988 education reform, we have been witnes sing a politicians’ fight against progressivism or, generally speaking, against pedagogical theories, teachers and academics.
