In Anna Barcz’s article “Bullfighting in Sienkiewicz’s eyes,” the narrative adopts the perspective of critical reflection on the relationship between humans and animals to analyze bullfights in Spain. Despite the genesis of corrida, which uses bloody and extremely elaborate art to depict overcoming the evil beast, Sienkiewicz’s text shows the obvious scenes and results of suffering of the animal and the human cultural will to fight. According to Zdziechowski’s approach, man is cruel, not animal. The beginnings of modern empathetic attitude against animal abuse can undoubtedly be found.
