In this book titled Generation 'P' Victor Pelevin, combining the elements of realism and postmodernism, presents modern Russian society. Pelevin claims that his homeland is losing its identity. The author of that novel suffers from a fact, that nowadays Russia sticks in chaos, and Russian citizens are not aware of that. Advertisements have a large influence on our minds and our way of thinking. Every day we are manipulated by media and nobody is able to stop that destroying and fueled with money machine. Besides money, nothing else matters at all. According to Pelevin, people do not create reality, but they are created by the virtual reality. The author notices, that television and the Internet create something like a virtual insanity. In this way a new creature has been born; this product of mass culture is called 'homo zapiens' - it is a human being enslaved by TV. This creature goes to the supermarket to be happy and learns his thoughts from TV programmes. Using irony, black humor and grotesque, Pelevin shows Russian reality which has been beacause money is the only 'god' and everybody wants to have more than others. People do not trust one another and money is the only thing they love. In Pelevin's opinion self-consciouness of modern Russian has been enslaved by illusion, which chains are not possible to be broken, because people are not aware of their slavery.
