Autor prezentuje Arystotelesowską koncepcję możności/możliwości (dynamis), która należy do filozoficznego słownika pojęć podstawowych Stagiryty. Pojęcie możności stanowi jedno z najważniejszych pojęć jego metafizyki. Szczególną rolę tego pojęcia określa to, iż można je rozumieć jako jeden z łączników filozofii pierwszej oraz filozofii praktycznej (etyki, retoryki oraz polityki) Stagiryty: autor analizuje związek filozofii teoretycznej i praktycznej na podstawie tego ważnego pojęcia. Pokazanie związku teorii i praktyki opiera się na analizie kluczowych partii Metafizyki (księgi delta oraz theta) i odnosi przedstawione w niej dystynkcje do podstawowego elementu Arystotelesowskiej filozofii praktycznej – pojęcia cnoty (arete). W praktycznych dziełach filozofa (trzy etyki i retoryka) znajdujemy definicje arete, które wydają się prima facie sprzeczne: w Etyce Nikomachejskiej Arystoteles definiuje cnotę odwołując się do pojęcia trwałej dyspozycji (hexis), tymczasem w Retoryce definiuje ją na podstawie pojęcia możności. Szczegółowa analiza tej pozornej sprzeczności pozwala pokazać faktyczne znaczenie pojęcia możności w filozofii Stagiryty.

The author considers Aristotle’s conception of potency (dynamis), a fundamental notion in his metaphysics. One of its important functions is to connect his metaphysics and his practical philosophy. Showing this connection involves an analysis of the most important parts of the Metaphysics (Books Delta and Theta) and its application to an essential element of Aristotle’s practical philosophy, the notion of virtue (arete). However, Aristotle’s practical works (the three Ethics and the Rhetoric) contain apparently contradictory definitions of arete: in the Nicomachean Ethics Aristotle defines arete in terms of the notion of disposition (hexis), while in the Rhetoric he makes use of the notion of potency. An examination of this apparent contradiction clarifies the true significance of potency in Aristotle’s philosophy
