An international conference on the information requirements of Poles living abroad was held in Hénin-Beaumont on 14-16 October this year. The meeting was organised by Maison de la Polonia (Kongres Polonii Francuskiej) and the Institute of Information and Book Studies at the University of Warsaw. The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Ministry of Education. The conference was attended by 126 Polonia representatives from 14 European countries and Russia, including 32 persons from Poland. The participants spoke for ministries, schools of higher learning, libraries and Polonia institutions. The papers considered three prime currents: the informatisation of libraries, the cultural heritage of Poles living abroad, and education. Next to a presentation of the papers, the organiser planned informal meetings, which turned out to be a relevant forum for the exchange of various experiences. In many cases, they also became the first direct encounter for persons who earlier had been collaborating for many years. Detailed information about the conference is to be found in material available on the Internet.
