Refusal letters in German as a kind of text (on the basis of examples of authentic refusals to job applications)

Abstracts
The article presents an analysis of various ways of rejecting job applications in German language, on the basis of 400 authentic texts of this kind collected in the years 2000–2004. The analysis examines the forms of argumentation applied by employers in their negative answers. In these letters, there are many other speech acts apart from the speech act of rejection. Their function is to comfort the addressee.
