The Polish-Lithuanian relations as one of the elements in the Eastern conception constituted an important topic in the publications of the Parisian “Kultura” (Culture). In the literature of the subject, owing to the specific formula of the functioning of the periodical, it is identified with the life and work of its editor Jerzy Giedroyc, who shouldered single-handedly the responsibility for the programme implemented by the periodical for over 50 years. The strategy of good neighbourly relations between Po-land and Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarussia (known also as the ULB conception) was created by Juliusz Mieroszewski, seemingly the most prominent political writer of the after-war Polish emigration. The paper presents the impact of Jerzy Giedroyc’s personal relationships with Lithuania (including the place of his birth, Mińsk Litewski and the historical traditions of his family) on the development of the idea of co-operation be-tween Poland and the ULB area. It explicates the consequences of giving up the idea of recuperation of Vilnius and Lvov, proclaimed already in 1952 (a letter of the reverend J. Majewski) in a clear attempt to overcome the historical legacy. At the same time, it stresses a loud protest against the declaration of the London emigration. The author strives to demonstrate that the courageous voicing of the issue of co-operation between Poles and Lithuanians oriented to sovereignty, broke also certain national stereotypes. In an overview of the publications and by adducing names, such as, among others, Czesław Miłosz, Bohdan Osadczuk, Jerzy Pomianowski, Wiktor Sukiennicki, Tomas Venclova, E. Żagiell, she evaluates the achievements of the “Kultura” in the matter through the lenses of the use to which the ULB conception was put in the currently implemented policy of the III Republic. There are also in the paper references to edito-rial initiatives of Jerzy Giedroyc, his interviews and gestures of solidarity of the Polish diaspora with Lithuania.
