The article is a comparison of financial aid methods, provided to the unemployed, in Poland and in the largest EU countries: the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Moreover, the statement has been enriched by illustrating the condition of the individual labor markets, thus allowing for the correct assessment of the passive policy pursued by the Polish government. Furthermore, in order to fully understand the essence of unemployment, the author cites the most important definitions in the field of unemployment.
