The paper discusses international standards in the sphere of museum exchange projects. The author analyzed, among others, the following documents: UNESCO recommendations concerning international exchange of goods of culture of 26 November 1976, General Principles of managing loans and exchange of works of art between institutions (the so-called Loan Guidelines) and the specimen of loan agreement prepared by the Network of European Museum Organizations (the so-called NEMO Loan Agreement). The author undertakes to juxtapose the recommended conditions of loan agreements – preparations and negotiations, rights and duties of parties, costs of loans, transport, conditions of display and safety, copyrights, sponsoring, governmental guarantees, insurance and jurisdictional immunity. The proposed patterns, which are not of the binding character, can lead to a formation of better practices in the sphere of museum exchange activity.
