The paper deals with the language attitudes problem in Belarus and concerns standard Belarusian language and two types of mixed speech, or so-called “Trasianka”. This research is based on matched guise test and reports respondents’ reactions to spoken languages from a viewpoint of their nationality / ethnicity. It also analyzes self-reported nationality / ethnicity data from school- and university- age students and makes an attempt to find out, which social and political conditions effect on the language evaluation and national self-definition.
