The purpose of this article is to determine the convention bureau’s role in the process of acquiring meetings of associations. In the article, the stages of the above process were analysed in detail, at the same time considering two perspectives, from which it can be examined: the meeting’s organizer, and the facility competing to become the meeting place. Then, individual phases were compared with the results of the empirical global-range study concerning the roles and tasks of the convention bureau conducted on-line on 73 managers of the analyzed institutions. The convention bureau’s activities connected with promoting the city and shaping the relations with the meeting’s organizer were found to be the most important for the respondents. Based on the conducted analyses, it was found that the convention bureau plays the largest part in acquiring and organizing a meeting in the first stage of this process.
