The restoration of Poland’s independence was a gradual process which was conditioned by numerous factors. One of them was the attitude towards communist organizations that had been established on Polish territory. The article analyzes source materials dedicated to the „Polish” communist movement of 1918-1923 which remained in the possession of the Interior Ministry of the Second Republic of Poland. The examined sources include the ministry’s operational materials as well as reports developed by the ministry’s agencies concerning the organization, course and outcomes of the First Conference of the Communist Party of Poland and Party Councils up to the period preceding the party’s second conference.
