Aconference on the application of contemporary management techniques in museums and the arrangement of expositions, organised by the Mazovian Culture and Art Centre and the Department of Culture, Promotion and Tourism at the Board of the Mazovia Voivodeship Marshal’s Office, was held on 6-7 March in Warsaw. The topics of the debates included the international cooperation of museums, the obtaining of funds, museums tasks within the domain of promotion, education and social initiatives, the use of new technologies and ideas, as well as challenges facing museum institutions in the era of mass culture. The conference presented a plan of future activity - the guidelines of the Working Group at Culture Unit EU for Museum Cooperation and the Ethics Code of the ICOM Polish National Committee conceived as a fundamental collection of work principles intended for the museum staff. The conference participants attended six meetings concerning the place of the visitor in museum space, new media in the museum, informatics technologies in inventories and documentation, the security of temporary exhibitions and conservation-curator surveillance. A discussion on cooperation possibilities and an exchange of experiences between Mazovian and foreign museums comprised an important item on the conference agenda.
