The paper discusses dementia syndrome in the pastoral practice of the Church and pastoral care focusing on the corporeal aspect of the human being, which enables dementia patients to engage in contact with people around them even in their situation involving limited verbal communication. The paper first deals with dementia and the limitations associated with it and then focuses on the aspect of corporeity in the context of dementia syndrome. The paper subsequently discusses the aspect of corporeity as a point of departure for pastoral care for dementia patients and the concept of Seelsorge as Leibsorge. Finally it focuses on the form Seelsorge as Leibsorge takes with Pope Francis.
