The paper refers to one of the methods of linguistic nomination of medicinal plants, which consists in presenting the semantic link between the name of the medicinal plant species and its practical, yet non-medical use (household uses, cosmetic uses, etc.). This phenomenon is illustrated by discussing numerous examples of medicinal plants’ names in Polish and Russian languages, as well as in Latin binomial nomenclature. It is characteristic that the names of the same medicinal plants in various languages could convey different semantic undertones.
