The purpose of this article is to look at the sacraments, above all, their significance and meaning in the spirit of sixteenth-century Reformation. The Guides in this reflection are the three pioneers of the Reformation movement: Martin Luther, John Calvin and Huldrych Zwingli. Their ideas are manifested in various methods of argument and precision of sacramental theology. This shows on the one hand, their radicalism and conservatism, but on the other hand, social pragmatism. Recognition of the sacraments, by M. Luther, H. Zwingli, and J. Calvin in terms of positive, as well as controversy appears to be a connection biblical message with the tradition, but excessive sensibility to the political needs of contemporary their environment. In principle they understand the sacraments as a connection the Word of God and the material form of the sign, recognizing only two: baptism and the Eucharist, because - according to the principle of sola scriptura - only those explicitly were established by Jesus. Their main concern was the integrity of the Gospel during the celebration of each of the sacraments. They valued the place of preaching the Word, because the sacrament is based on the biblical narrative should not be exercised without understanding. Sacraments are outward signs, which are accompanied by a promise. Reformers saw in baptism continuation of the covenant sign of circumcision and taken to the Church and to the community of the covenant with God. They expressed their opposition to the Catholic meaning of the sacrament and the science of nature form of the Eucharistic and the purpose of Mass.
