The settlement at Kośmidry (Site I) was strongly destroyed by exploitation of a sand mine. In 2004 and 2005, in the course of rescue excavations conducted along the edge of the heading, 28 household features were discovered. Based on the analysis of gathered materials, the site can be dated to the Early Iron Age. In 2011, under the direction of the author, protective works were undertaken. In their course, another two storage pits were explored, which were visible in the slide of the heading. Gathered ceramic finds, both from the features and the surface of the site, confirmed the relation of the settlement to the eastern periphery of the West Balt Barrow Culture. The most interesting finds were discovered in Feature 28. vessels which were found there may in all probability be related to Phase iv (“Sambian”) of this culture. It can be therefore supposed that cultural changes at the turn of the eras in north-eastern Masuria went along a similar path as in Sambia.
