Palais Ideal, a unique architectonic object of naive art, is situated in the French department of Drôme. At the turn of the nineteenth century, Ferdinand Cheval, a village postman, spent more than 30 years realising his dream about a palace envisaged as a reflection of all the wonders of the world and as a miniature of best known architectonic constructions. Up to this day, the resultant surrealist construction remains the object of universal admiration and interest. After the death of its creator, the Palais, for a long time not conserved, demanded general renovation, inaugurated after the building was purchased by the state. The original conception of the surrounding garden was also restored. At present, Palais Ideal is open to visitors, who can become acquainted with its history presented by a fascinating “son et lumičre” spectacle, held during the summer.
