The aim of this paper is to review selected empirical studies aimed at determining whether in the Visegrad Group countries can be observed a statistically significant relationship between macroeconomic aggregates and the cycle of government change. Information whether and how political factors particularly affect the debts of the Visegrad Group may be relevant in the face of the debt crisis which the European Union recently struggles with. The study indicates that in the case of the Visegrad Group, the political business cycle may contribute to the national economies’ indebtness.
