The goal of this article is politological and legal analysis of the constitutional discourse in the European Union, especially in the context of the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, Treaty of Lisbon and the European integration process. The article consists of three parts. The first one presents the origins of the idea of constitutional developments within the EC/EU until 2004. The two most important treaties — Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe and Treaty of Lisbon — are subjects of analysis in the second part of the article. The third part focuses on the phenomenon of constitutionalisation and deconstitutionalisation in the context of European integration process as well as changes associated with it. Short summary and final considerations are at the end of the article.
