This article presents an analysis of diachronic changes related to the position of pronominal clitics in South Slavic. The change consisted in the shift from verb-adjacent to second position cli-tics. It occurred only in those languages that lost tense morphology, which is analyzed as the loss of TP (Tense Phrase). It is shown that the loss of TP has certain repercussions for the syntax of clitics in these languages.
