The article examines the process of reportage writing by Melchior Wańkowicz, from the emergence of an idea to the publication. The author tries to demonstrate that Wańkowicz attached a lot of weight to the editorial form of books. She stresses Wańkowicz’s work in the “Rój” Publishing Society, his awareness of the publishing conditions resulting from it, and his negative opinion about the author-publisher collaboration. In addition, the author presents Wańkowicz’s active participation in the publication process and his decisive influence on the final form of his books. She examines the manuscript flow, ways of creating card indexes and archives as well as Wańkowicz’s place of work and tools he used.
