Artykuł koncentruje się na roli szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce w okresie po rozpoczęciu transformacji ustrojowej jako czynnika rozwoju kapitału społecznego. Omówiono w nim wszystkie formy kapitału ludzkiego, których nośnikiem jest człowiek, odnosząc się również do problemu finansyzacji. Przedstawiono też sytuację szkolnictwa wyższego w tym okresie. Ponadto scharakteryzowano wyzwania, wobec jakich staje szkolnictwo wyższe w związku ze zmieniającą się sytuacją demograficzną.

In this article, the author focuses on the role of higher education in Poland in the period after the commencement of the systems transformation as a factor of social capital development. He discussed in it all forms of human capital whose carrier is the human being, referring also to the problem of financing. There is also presented the condition of the higher education in this time-period. Moreover, he characterised the challenges faced by the higher education system due to the changing demographic situation.
