Greek root of ekphrasis is ekphrasein, meaning to ‘speak out’, to ‘tell in full’. Jean Hagstrum, as well as other influential critics, defines this term as special quality of giving voice and language to the otherwise mute art objects. The aim of this article is discussion and interpretation of the theoretical views concerning ekphrasis formulated by Jean Hagstrum, John Hollander, James A.W. Heffernan and W.J.T. Mitchell, as well as attempt to a practical application of those theoretical postulates. To the reading in the spirit of those theoretical considerations are submitted poems which actualize ekphrastic principle that can be define as: to give a voice to the mute art objects.
