W wyniku otwarcia brytyjskiego rynku pracy dla Polaków wielu młodych ludzi wyjechało do Wielkiej Brytanii. Wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród polskich emigrantów zarobkowych w Londynie wskazują, iż obecna fala emigracyjna ma odmienny charakter niż poprzednie. Młodzi emigranci nie tworzą zwartej społeczności choć zamieszkują tak zwane „polskie dzielnice”, w których utrzymanie się jest stosunkowo tanie. Choć emigracja zgodnie z deklaracjami respondentów ma charakter tymczasowy, to im dłużej przebywają oni w Londynie, tym trudniej podjąć im decyzję o powrocie do Polski. Młodzi polscy emigranci wykonują najczęściej prace mieszczące się w sektorze usług, które są niechętnie podejmowane przez Brytyjczyków. Zjawisko współczesnej emigracji zarobkowej Polaków wymaga dalszych systematycznych badań.

Opening of the British labour market to the Polish citizens resulted in young people’s mass emigration to Great Britain. The results of the research conducted among the Polish economic emigrants in London indicate that present and previous emigration flows are noticeably different from each other in nature. Young emigrants do not constitute a coherent community. However, they live in the so called “Polish districts”, where living is relatively cheap. Most young Polish emigrants work in the service sector, thus responding to the demands of the British labour market. According to respondents’ declarations their emigration is temporary. Still, they admit that the longer they stay in London the more likely they are to postpone the decision about return to Poland. The problem of emigration, as it is observed nowadays, requires further systematic research.
