„The same pope Stefan to make the beginnings o f the stay o f Jordan more pleasant for the clergy and Polish people offered him the sword of Saint Peter, by which the Apostle, like they believe, cut off the ears of Malchus in the Olive Garden, maybe the same sword, maybe the other, and blessed it as the keepsake o f wonderful action of the Apostle; in order to Polish church possess this apparent jewel to be proud of the priest of Christ and the successor of Saint Peter for the glory and the fame of Saint Peter” (John Długosz, Catalogue of the Bishops of Poznan). The scientific session dedicated to this sword stored in Poznań as Poznań sword of Saint Peter. The history and the legend was organized at 8th April, 2011 in the Archdiocesan Museum in Poznań. The initiator was the director of the museum the priest prelate Marian Lewandowski. The discussed session is the example how many possibilities gives the discussion connected with the individual work of art. The representatives o f many disciplines were gathered, from the Biblical studies to the metallurgy.
