The article discusses a programme for training students in the field of the conservation of artistic ceramics in the Institute of Historical Monuments and Conservation at the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń which offers a specialised course in the Conservation of Architectonic Elements and Details. The author presents conservation and research problems most frequently tackled by students preparing their M.A. theses as well as during the realisation of concrete conservation tasks involving ceramic objects. She lists the main trends of the protection and renovation of old porous and non-porous ceramics: tiles, terracotta, faience, porcelain and stoneware. In a general outline, the article mentions conservation methods and measures applied in our workshops as well as the principles which determine their employment.
