Theoretical and practical aspects of developing creative thinking of primary school сhildren by means of foreign language are considered. The features of development of skills of creative thinking at the lessons of English in primary school are researched in the article. The analysis of scientific pedagogical literature on the development of creative thinking of primary school children during learning of foreign language since the days of antiquity is conducted. It is noted that the initial stage is important because it determines the success in mastering the subject in the following steps. In the article the peculiarities of motivation in learning foreign language in the elementary school are considered. It is argued that systematic study of the foreign language at the elementary school is beneficial for all children regardless of their starting opportunities, as it has positive impact on the development of mental functions of primary school children (memory, attention, thinking, perception, imagination) and stimulates the development of speaking skills. The needs for selecting the content, forms and methods of training are emphasizesed according to the age of children. The attention is payed to classes of foreign language. They should be encouraged not only to practical mastering it, but also become a source of mental development of children, help develop their memory, attention, thinking, imagination. It is proved that it is better to start learning a foreign language in primary school age when the system of the native language is learnt and a conscious attitude to the new language has been already formed. At this age, even with the use of small speech cliches, it is easy to rearrange your thoughts on the new design and there is no major difficulty in making contact in a foreign language. It is worth remembering that at the lesson of foreign language it is necessary not just to give knowledge of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar, but also to develop the ability to think and create, to be able to engage freely in speech communication with native speakers. The effect of the training of a foreign language in primary school age will certainly have a positive impact on the development of children, the culture of communication, it will influence the activation of all mental functions, it will improve the general outlook of children. The connection between language and thinking is disclosed. The period of elementary school is defined as sensitive for learning foreign language.
