Głównym celem niniejszej pracy jest śledzenie absurdów ludzkiej egzystencji opisanych w tekstach Jean-Paula Sartre’a. Analizując powieść Mdłości autorka przedstawia podstawy Sartre’owskiego egzystencjalizmu, który później znalazł swoje rozwinięcie w najbardziej znanej pracy filozoficznej francuskiego myśliciela Byt i nicość. Teza tekstu jest następująca: teksty filozoficzne Sartre’a zawierają ogólne zasady egzystencjalizmu, zaś jego teksty literackie dają konkretne przykłady ludzkich zachowań, relacji i działań zatopionych w absurdzie. Niniejszy artykuł łączy treść tekstów literackich i filozoficznych Sartre’a. W pierwszej części autorka prezentuje wątki biograficzne Sartre’a oraz narodziny jego zainteresowań literaturą. Następnie opisuje absurd pojęcia egzystencji w Mdłościach i Byciu i Nicości po to, aby zaprezentować egzystencjalną definicję ludzkiej istoty.
