Professor Jerzy Fogel – a portrait from the perspective of Kórnik
Languages of publication
The paper presents Professor Jerzy Fogel from the perspective of his hometown. It discusses archaeological, historical and restoring projects in which Professor was involved, as well as other initiatives he personally participated, in such as the protection of the heritage of the Jews from Kórnik, including delivering lectures and speeches on the subject during cultural meetings organised by the town of Kórnik, setting up of a meeting with Wisława Szymborska and further activities connected with the poet, or organisation of a number of patriotic celebrations, including that of the 550th anniversary of the town establishment and last but not least of the ‘Magnolia Blossom Festival’ (Święto Kwitnącej Magnolii). The paper has been extended and enriched with some facts and events from his personal life, which threw new light on the picture of Professor, as a result of the much appreciated conversation with Professor’s wife, Mrs. Irena Fogel. She pictured her husband as a man personally and selflessly involved into several activities and events, able to sacrifice his private time, and sometimes even his health. A man of numerous passions: archaeology, history, music, he was deeply involved in the promotion of the cultural heritage of Kórnik and thanks to his family and friends he was able to find more power and strength for further, sometimes not easy endeavours.
