The results of many studies support, on the one hand, the impact of risk factors, regardless of its kind, on the possibility of building the competitive advantage. On the other hand, there is still a low level of awareness of the necessity of considering the risk factor both in the creation and implementation of the concept of development. This article aims to analyse the level of risk awareness by considering it at the stage of strategy creation and implementation, as well as interactions between the two areas. In addition, the second issue was the disposal of adequate resources which are used to support effectiveness of these processes by eliminating the negative impact of risk factors. Quantitative research was conducted and the research sample covered 100 SMEs. The results indicated a relatively high level of awareness and the impact of risk and existence of a positive relationship between its areas.
