In 2004 Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were found in the NATO structures and the European Union. Russia judged negatively the process of the European integration of the Baltic countries hence when it was completed, their intercourse became worse. Among the most discussed controversial issues there should be enumerated the problem of legal establishment of the borders, the situation of the Russian-speaking people in the Baltic countries, the transport to and from the Kaliningrad District, and also extremely different interpretation of the modern history.
