Legal background for teachers of common folk schools in Galicia in the years of its autonomy

The aim of paper– constant education in Galicja, was to prepare children and youth, the future citizens, to fulfill the challenges in their adult life. The purpose of this article is to present history of the folk teachers in autonomous Galicia based on regulations of the educational law. It describes particular stages of this professional group, starting from entrance examinations to seminar leading to a master’s degree in teaching, trough obtaining the teachers certificate, right into pension. The article touches the matter of the rights and duties of the teachers and consequences of disregarding the regulations. The following acts of the law were analyzed: the acts of law published by Emperor Franciszek Józef II, the acts of law published by National Diet in Lwów, decrees of National School Board, decrees of the Minister of Faith and Public Enlightenment.
