W artykule prezentuję porządkującą dychotomię systemów wartości i zasad życia akade-mickiego. Jedna strona tej dychotomii to uniwersytet klasyczny i konserwatywny, a dru-ga to uniwersytet pragmatyczny, nastawiony na efektywność, a nawet cele ekonomiczne. Polityka naukowa i reformy w naturalny sposób sprzyjają temu drugiemu typowi uni-wersytetu. Na końcu artykułu wyliczam te atrybuty kultury akademickiej, które mu-szą „przetrwać” wszelkie reformy i których należy bronić dla dobra uniwersytetu i ca-łego społeczeństwa.

In this article the existence of a practical dichotomy of values within academia is pro-posed. On one side of this dichotomy the classical and idealistic type of university is found; while on the other side, the pragmatic university, focused on effectiveness or even economic goals, exists. Science policy and reforms naturally support the second model of university constitution. At the end of the article I enumerate certain essential attri-butes of academic culture that must be defended through all reforms for the good of ac-ademia and the society.
