Prezentowany artykuł dotyka zagadnień związanych z zawieraniem sakramentu małżeństwa w przeszłości. Problematyka w nim poruszona odwołuje się do okresu autonomii galicyjskiej i została przedstawiona na konkretnym przykładzie wsi Brzozowa leżącej nieopodal Zakliczyna koło Tarnowa. W tekście ukazane zostały społeczne i osobiste determinanty wpływające na podjęcie decyzji o małżeństwie. Scharakteryzowano w nim kolejne zabiegi mające doprowadzić do ślubu, w tym te związane z uzyskaniem zgody rodziców i ustaleniami przedślubnymi. Nakreślono także kolejne etapy przygotowań do samej uroczystości, jak również omówiono panujące dawniej zwyczaje odnoszące się do ceremonii ślubnej i tradycyjnego przyjęcia weselnego. Osobne miejsce poświęcono ponadto pozycji kobiety i mężczyzny w związku oraz materialnym kwestiom związanym z założeniem rodziny.

The article touches upon the issues related to the entering into the sacrament of marriage in the past. The problems raised in the article refer to the period of Galician autonomy and have been illustrated using the specific example of the village of Brzozowa, located by Zakliczyn near Tarnow. The text shows the social and personal determinants influencing one’s decision to enter into marriage. It characterizes the procedures leading to marriage, including those related to obtaining parental consent and other pre-marriage agreements. The article also outlines the orderly steps in preparation of the ceremony itself, as well as it discusses the rituals related to the wedding ceremony and wedding reception that have prevailed in the past. In addition, a special place has been dedicated to the position of a woman and a man in a relationship, and material issues related to starting a family.
