Elvin Flamingo’s new artistic project H.Z.M.R.Prolog (The preface to HOROZOLAMADOROSA) may be perceived as an invitation to an ideological take on contemporary Poland. In fact, this visual project goes beyond the portrayal of Poles and Polishness to become a more general commentary on contemporary life. Flamingo’s art metaphorically guides us through the 9 dark and miserable circles of Dante’s Inferno. It is a tough task, to capture 37 million people and depict their faces. The clay hovels which serve as their homes. The country which has not changed for several hundred years. At first surrounded by brick walls and then drilled by a bomb crater just to be clumsily glued back together. A country which became nameless in the manner of concentration camp numbers and finally, a country which has been given away to real estate developers. Flamingo registers the process of decay. The disappointment written on the faces of Poles as they strive to make ends meet within the freedom offered 21 years ago. A freedommost are still not familiar with. Surely, such reality reeks of frustration. Perhaps this is an exaggeration? But it seems that only the bad are left to play in this game. The good are long dead.
