The contents of this article is the analysis of some aspects of constitutional role of the State in environmental protection in accordance with the principle of sustainable development. The following issues were analysed here thoroughly: the importance of constitutional regulation establishing tasks of the State in environmental protection from formal-legal, as well as material-legal stand; the importance of sustainable development notion as an element of constitutional norms; the contents of constitutional rules of law regulating environmental protection area in the context of the principle of sustainable development and the question of constitutional and legal value of this principle.
