W artykule omówione zostały metody badań empirycznych nad publicznie dostępną pomocą prawną, stosowane za granicą. Skupiono się na metodologii paths to justice, użytej od końca lat 90. w kilkudziesięciu badaniach na całym świecie. Podkreślono liczne zalety tego podejścia, ale także wskazano na jego ograniczenia i możliwości rozwoju. W podsumowaniu zaakcentowano potrzebę realizacji podobnych badań w Polsce.

The paper discusses methods of empirical research on public legal aid, used outside of Poland. It ocuses on paths to justice methodology, which since late 1990 has been used in few dozen studies around the world. While stressing many advantages of this approach, the paper also points at its limitations and possibilities of further development. In summing up, it indicates the need of completing similar studies in Poland.
