Companies located in Grudziądz significantly contributed to the development of the Polish pharmaceutical and veterinary industry. Between 1920 and 1939 there were six factories producing medical products in the city, out of which five was one-man businesses, and one – a limited liability company. Chemical and Farmaceutical Laboratory “Aptekarz E. Baranowski”, founded in 1920 on the basis of the former chemical preparations factory “Samtera”, played a leading role. The owner, Edmund Baranowski, was not only an industrialist, but also a community worker and a politician, acting for the benefit of the local community. He organised the Committee for launching the pharmaceutical industry in Grudziądz (together with Professor Konstanty Hrynakowski). Coloner Władysław Hofman was the person associated with the Cavalry Training Centre. He was a veterinary surgeon and, at the same time, the owner of the enterprise producing horse medicines. The WW2 and political changes after 1945 stopped the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in Grudziądz.
