„First Pages”. On the literary works of Jan Łysek
Languages of publication
In the article, I review the extensive eight-year literary output of Jan Łysek, the poet-legionnaire. His prose, poetic and dramatic works stood out against the background of texts of other contemporary artists of Cieszyn Silesia. They constitute an interesting example of creative work inspired by the works of esteemed Polish Romantics and authors of the Young Poland period. Łysek also used topics and motifs from the folklore of the Beskid highlanders. Furthermore, his works demonstrate a sensitivity to social issues, which gave them the potential to spread well beyond the region. Unfortunately, the great world war interrupted the author’s young life and a promising career as a writer. The work of Jan Łysek, read and described during the interwar period as well as after 1945, with every decade fell more and more into oblivion, for obvious reasons. It was only the year 2015 that once again stimulated interest in the life and work of the bard from Jaworzynka.
