The idea of non-formal education in the public library environment allows to pursue the process of updating the knowledge, skills and social and personal competence of readers, which gives them a sense of agency, creates the so-called „educational fashion”, encourages lifelong learning, allows minimization of the problem of discrepancy between the ability to and the responsibility for shaping the future. Analysis of sample cultural and educational forms reveals that public libraries, beyond the traditional activities related to access to the collections and the provision of information, are involved in the promotion of the values of cultural personalities.
