Constructivism came into being 100 years ago in Russia – even though at that time Paris was the main centre of art – and it lasted only a decade, yet it still laid the foundations for modern fashion. What is left of Constructivism in the era of popular chain stores? The basis for designing in the Constructivist trend was quality (the fabrics created with care were to serve for years), and the clothes were to be made with respect for the people involved in this process, with respect for human work. The 1960s are connected with Constructivism by something more than just the love for similar prints – first of all it is a pursuit for simplification of forms, emphasis placed on the functional character of clothes and a change in thinking about fashion as something elite.
