This article is an attempt to interpret some results of a diagnosis of the situation of young adults on the labour market in Poland, especially the following reports: The Youth 2011, and Human Capital Assessment. The study focused mainly on the obstacles associated with competences mismatch, in order to tackle this issue from the pedagogical point of view. The author paid particular attention to the possibility of different interpretations of the same empirical data and the discrepancies in the evaluation of the same phenomena. The hypothesis which I am trying to prove is the ambivalence of the labour market. This feature can be interpreted as typical for the nearly 25-year-old labour market in Poland; it may also indicate a progressive process of its disintegration. The situation in both cases is not conducive to planning short- and long-term educational objectives, and can result in a permanent discrepancy between the expectations of the labour market and learning outcomes.
