Artykuł poświęcony jest pojęciu iki, ważnemu dla estetyki i kultury japońskiej. Iki uzyskało swoją pełną formę wyrazu w okresie Edo (1603-1868), zaś jego pełnym ucieleśnieniem była gejsza. Japoński filozof Shuzo Kuki, odwiedzając Europę na początku XX w. i konfrontując jej kulturę z japońską, doszedł do przekonania, iż nie jest możliwe przetłumaczenie pojęcia iki, z całym jego bogactwem znaczeniowym. To zainspirowało go do napisania książki "Struktura iki". Rozważania zawarte w artykule przybliżają zarówno pracę oraz postać japońskiego filozofa, jak i są próbą ujęcia istoty iki na podstawie hermeneutyki filozoficznej. Poprzez wprowadzenie pojęcia gry jako zasadniczego dla ontologii dzieła sztuki H.-G. Gadamera, autorka dąży do przedstawienia pojęcia iki, oraz przybliżenia samego zjawiska kulturowego, w sposób zrozumiały dla Europejczyka.

This article is devoted to iki, an important concept for Japanese aesthetics and culture. Iki attained its full expressive form during the Edo period (1603-1868), though its full embodiment was gejsza. When the Japanese philosopher Shuzo Kuki visited Europe at the beginning of the 20th century and confronted its culture with that of Japan, he concluded that it is impossible to translate the concept of iki in the fullness of its meaning. This inspired him to write the book "The Structure of iki". The consideration contained in this article present both the figure of this Japanese philosopher and his attempt to capture the essence of iki on the basis of philosophical hermeneutics. By introducing the concept of game as an essential element for H.-G. Gadamer`s ontology of a work of art, the autor presents the concept of iki, and attempts to make this cultural phenomenon understandable for Europeans.
