Artykuł ma na celu opis śledztw przeprowadzanych przez internautów w Polsce, jak i na świecie. Autor przedstawił kilka przykładów tejże działalności i na tej podstawie podjął próbę wyodrębnienia psychologicznych aspektów motywacyjnych, którymi kierują się ludzie uczestniczący w internetowych śledztwach, jak również ukazał różnorodność użytych przez nich metod śledczych. W dalszej części wskazano powiązanie omawianego zjawiska z teoriami działań kolektywnych oraz altruizmu z pojęciem „neoplemion” i zjawiskiem „kultury daru”. W ostatniej części artykułu autor omawia kwestię zagrożeń wynikających z aktywności dochodzeniowej internautów, a także zawiera krótką refleksję dotyczącą rozwoju opisanego zjawiska.

The main purpose of this paper is to describe the investigations carried out by Internet users in Poland and around the world. The author presents several examples of such activities and on their basis attempts to identify psychological aspects of motivation of people participating in online investigations, as well as showing the variety of their investigative methods. The author also indicates the relationship between this phenomenon and the theories of collective action and with the notion of altruism and the “neotribe” concept and the phenomenon of “the gift culture.” In the last part of this paper the author discusses the risks of investigative activity on the Internet and also includes a brief reflection on the development of the aforementioned phenomenon
