The purpose of this article is to present an image of the New World in Old Polish dictionaries, from the sixteenth to mid-nineteenth century, that is, up to date of the publication of the second edition of the "Dictionary of the Polish language" by Samuel Linde. The first part of the article is devoted to the discussion of Latin, French, English, Italian, and Portuguese dictionaries, from the perspective of americanismos and the "American topics". Second, a substantial part of the text, is an analysis of Polish dictionaries, which reveals how the Polish lexicography adopted an image of nature and the inhabitants of the New World.
