SEVEN PLANETARY DEITIES: THE EXAMPLE OF THE BREASTPLATE FROM CASTRA TRICORNIA (UPPER MOESIA)

Abstracts
The goal of this study is to shed a light on the decoration of the breastplate from Castra Tricornia (modern Ritopek), the mutatio in the limes of the Roman province of Upper Moesia, and its current research. The aim is to offer a revision of previous readings of the breastplate’s decoration and its iconography. In the paper the representation of the seven planetary deities has been compared and read in relation with examples from Roman art and military insignia and equipment. The study attempts to understand and explain the context of this representation on a masterpiece of military toreutics.
