Olgierd Puciata, one of the most talented and versatile Warsaw-based historians of art, has passed away. Already as a student at Warsaw University he began working in the Head Office of the Protection of Historical Monuments, the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw Polytechnic, and the Commission of Studies on Old Warsaw. For a brief time he was a custodian at the Warsaw Historical Museum. In 1957-1958 O. Puciata fulfilled the function of secretary general of the Society of Lovers of History, and a year later became the Chief Conservator of Historical Monuments in the Voivodeship of Warsaw. O. Puciata also contributed to devising a complex conception of the development of a museum network in Mazovia. His subsequent posts included overseeing the Kazimierz Pułaski Museum in Warka and the experts employed by the State Enterprise Desa; he cooperated with the TV Theatre, for which he designed sets, worked at the Museum of Mazovia in Płock, and headed the Centre for the Documentation of Historical Monuments in Płock. Olgierd Puciata was a distinctive personality and a man of great knowledge and passion.
