Pupils of children’s homes is a specific group of children and youth in Poland. They come from dysfunctional families which do not fulfill their care and educational functions. In exercising parental authority pupils' parents interfere with family courts, which direct children to alternative forms of care. The article shows the possibility of resolving the situation of children, where individual decisions on parental responsibility are put on institutional forms of family. New child care is a social work with pupils' families and childcare centers designed to return children to their natural families. Other ways of dealing with the problem are family institutions and SOS Kinderdorf Children’s Villages.
