Przedmiotem rozważań są możliwe scenariusze starości dwóch pokoleń – powojennego wyżu demograficznego i echa wyżu demograficznego. Niepewność związana z brakiem stabilności i przewidywalnością bliższej i dalszej przyszłości wpływa na wybory i decyzje podejmowane przez pokolenie wyżu demograficznego lat 80. XX wieku. Decyzje i wybory dotyczące ścieżki kariery zawodowej i rodzinnej wpływają na to, jak będzie wyglądać starość obecnych 20- i 30-latków. Niepewność związana z codzienną egzystencją powoduje, że młodzi nie decydują się na zakładanie rodzin i posiadanie dzieci. Niestabilność zawodowa i niskie dochody wpływają na stan zdrowia. Te dwa czynniki – sytuacja zawodowa i rodzinna – to główne determinanty przyszłej starości tego pokolenia, starości samotnej, ubogiej i niesamodzielnej. Z drugiej strony do starości zbliża się pokolenie powojennego wyżu demograficznego, którego życie charakteryzowało się większą – niż obecnie – pewnością i przewidywalnością przyszłości. Starość tego pokolenia będzie w porównaniu z kolejnymi pokoleniami zamożniejsza i nie tak samotna.

Under consideration of this article are the possible scenarios of the last stage of life cycle of two generations – baby boomers and children of baby boomers. The uncertainty associated with the lack of stability and predictability of medium and long term influence the choices and decisions made by the baby boomers born in 1980s. The decisions and choices about career paths and family affect the old age of the current 20- and 30-year-olds. The uncertainty related to daily life makes the young people do not decide to start a family and having children. Occupational instability and low income affect health. These two factors – employment and family status – are the main determinants of the future old age of this generation – lonely, poor and reliant. On the other hand, baby boomers, whose life was characterized by a higher – than today – certainly and predictability future, are approaching old age. Aging of this generation will be – compared with the next the generations – richer and not so lonely.
